Text for the above items :

Tribute to Snr Lt Ivan Vasil'evich Maslov by Ivan Berryman.

Flying more than 300 missions, Ivan Maslov scored over 20 solo victories and shared in a similar number. He is depicted here in his Yak-3 of 157 IAP late in the war - the aircraft sports in Russian the inscription 'Red October Collective Farm', the funding source to build this aircraft. Maslov was awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union in 1944 and died aged 90 in 2011.

Tribute to Savelii Vasil'evich Nosov by Ivan Berryman.

Depicted in early 1945 in his Yak-3 of the 4 IAK special hunter squadron, Lt Savelii Vasil'evich Nosov's aircraft has the blood red rose of this unit. Awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union, he had scored 16 victories in nearly 150 missions by the end of World War Two.

Skirmish Over Stalluponen by David Pentland.

Yakolev Yak-3s of the Normandie Nedimen Regiment,, flown by French aces Marcel Albert in the foreground and Maurice Amarger down a Focke Wulf 190 over Stalluponen.

Russian Roulette by Robert Taylor.

A Soviet Yak 3 hurtles towards us in a typically daring head-on attack on a Bf109. Other Yaks wheel and turn frantically in search of the enemy. Casualties on both sides are evident. Away into the distant horizon stretches a vast Russian sky, painted in Roberts inimitable style: soon all will be quiet again until the next ferocious encounter.

Duel on the Dnepr, Southen Russia, Summer 1943 by David Pentland.

Rumanian IAR 80c on a tactical reconnaissance mission is intercepted and shot down by a Soviet YAK3 over the river Dnepr.

Yakovlev Aces of World War Two.

The Yak-1 entered Soviet service in 1941, one of three modern types of aircraft accepted for production just prior to the German invasion of the USSR. Despite initial shortcomings, it soon proved to be the thoroughbred of the Soviet Airforce. Indeed, it remained in production until the end of the war, modernized but fundamentally recognizable. By VE-day about 33,100 Yakovlev fighters had been built. Virtually all Soviet fighter regiments flew at least one variety of Yak for a time, including those which gained their fame identified with other aircraft, and consequently many pilots known as Airacobra or Lavochkin aces also scored victories with the Yak. Many other famous aces were exclusively Yak patriots, including the French Normandie pilots. This book focuses on the Soviet aces who scored all, or most of their victories in the Yak, drawing informaion from official unit histories and memoirs of the Soviet pilots themselves.
